Aruba Judge orders release of Gary Giordano held in the mysterious disappearance of Robyn Gardner

Today, an Aruba Judge ordered that Gary Giordano be released by Tuesday, November 29th without any conditions.  This would allow Giordano to freely leave Aruba and return to the United States.

Giordano has been held during the investigation of the disappearance and presumed death of Robyn Gardner.  Gardner disappeared on August 2, 2011 while vacationing with Giordano on the island of Aruba.  Giordano initially aided the Aruba authorities in the search for Gardner and claimed that she was lost at sea while they were snorkeling.  On August 5, 2011, Giordano attempted to leave the country on a commercial flight and was detained by the authorities in Aruba.  He has remained in jail since then.

Giordano and Gardner met on an adult matchmaking site called Adult Friend Finder which claims to be, “The World’s Largest Sex & Swinger Personals Community.”

Prosecutors in Aruba have indicated that they will appeal the order to release Giordano.

Aruban Judge holds American Gary Giordano in jail for another 60 days

A Judge in Aruba has ordered Gary Giordano be held in jail for another 60 days.  During this 60 day period the police and prosecutors will attempt to obtain additional evidence to allow them to proceed to trial.  For now, Giordano will remain in the Aruban jail even though he has yet to be charged with a crime.

After the ruling, Gardner’s mother, Andrea Colson, issued a statement in which she said, “We have faith and confidence in the Aruban Authorities and FBI, and know that they will fervently continue their efforts to find Robyn.  This has been such a difficult time for all of us and your prayers have given us strength. We need to find our daughter. We pray that anyone who knows what happened that day will find the strength to contact authorities immediately. And we continue to ask everyone to keep praying for our Robyn so that she will be found soon.”

Gardner has been missing since August 2nd and Giordano is the sole suspect in her disappearance.

It has also been revealed that Gardner and Giordano first met on a sex website for swingers called Adult Friend Finder.

Aruba judge holds American man for 16 days while authorities investigate the disappearance of his travel companion

Robyn Gardner, 35, was reported missing on August 2nd by her travel companion Gary Giordano, 50.  Giordano said that Gardner disappeared in the late afternoon while they were snorkeling off the southern tip of Aruba.  Giordano initially assisted the authorities with the investigation but was arrested on the 5th of August when he attempted to leave Aruba on a commercial flight bound for the United States.

After a hearing regarding the continued detention of Giordano, a Judge decided that prosecutors have enough evidence to continue to hold him.  The Judge stated that he agreed to the 16 day hold, “because of the seriousness of the case and of the importance of the investigation.”  Giordano will remain in jail for the next 16 days while Aruban authorities search for clues in the disappearance.  After the 16 days, prosecutors can ask that Giordano be held for 60 days while they prepare a case against him.  A judge would require more substantial evidence before granting that request.  After the 60 days, charges would have to be filed.

The case is strikingly similar to the disappearance of Natalee Holloway who disappeared on May 30, 2005 while vacationing in Aruba.  To date, Holloway has never been found.
