Penn State coach Joe Paterno in hot water over child sex abuse case against a former assistant

Penn State head coach Joe Paterno has coached the Nittany Lion football team for the last 46 years.  After a child sexual abuse scandal broke last week, it looks like this season will be his last.

Jerry Sandusky, a former Penn State defensive coordinator, has been criminally charged with molesting 8 children over a period from 1994 though 2009.  It is alleged that Paterno knew of at least one of the molestations and merely turned the information over to his superiors at Penn State.  Paterno, however, never contacted authorities or notified the child’s family.

Paterno has announced his retirement which he says will be effective after this season ends.  It is still very possible that the Penn State Board of Trustees will not accept his retirement and dismiss Paterno as early as today.  To be continued…
